In the Chinese Super League, a familiar face is returning to Tianjin Quanjian tonight. Italian coach Fabio Cannavaro was able to get the club promoted in 2016 and achieve a third place finish in their first season in the CSL. After receiving an offer to return for a second spell to Guangzhou Evergrande last summer, the World Cup winner is now aiming to redeem himself with his visiting Red and Gold team after they sacked him in 2015.
Cannavaro served as assistant to Marcello Lippi before making the step up in November 2014. A disappointing run of results ended in his dismissal less seven months later and the 44-year-old was replaced by Luiz Felipe Scolari. In the early stages of the 2018 campaign, Evergrande has two wins and a defeat, putting them third while their opponents, under the new guidance of ex-Swansea boss Paulo Sousa, have lost twice to go with a single victory. Despite it being the early stages of the season and being at opposite ends of the table, both sides are expected to be title challengers come November.
