It's a "No" to a no-deal Brexit. British MPs have voted AGAINST leaving the European Union WITHOUT an exit agreement. The non-binding vote comes one day after they rejected a revised deal negotiated by Prime Minister Theresa May. On Thursday, they will vote on whether to ask the EU for extra time to come up with a new one. CGTN's Richard Bestic has details.
The UK Prime Minister steps out to tell the world she remains loyal to her much maligned Brexit deal with the European Union. Now twice resoundingly defeated, Theresa May has urged members of Parliament to keep it alive by rejecting a "No Deal" Brexit.
THERESA MAY UK PRIME MINISTER "I want to leave the European Union with a good deal, I believe we have a good deal. Yes, No Deal is better than a bad deal. But I want, I have been working for us to leave on the 29th of March and leave with a good deal."
Suggesting perhaps May will return to Parliament with her Deal for a third try. Camped in the shadow of the UK Parliament, the world's media wait and watch for the latest twist in the Brexit tale. Inside, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond warned of what he called the "risk" from a No Deal Brexit.
PHILIP HAMMOND BRITISH FINANCE MINISTER "Leaving with 'No Deal' would mean significant disruption in the short and medium term. And a smaller less prosperous economy in the long term than if we leave with a deal."
The saga here, greeted with growing frustration in Brussels.
GUY VERHOFSTADT EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT BREXIT COORDINATOR "I'm against every extension when an extension of one day; one week; even 24-hours if it is not based on a clear opinion of the House of Commons for something that we know what they want."
In London, they voted to remove a "No Deal" Brexit from the table but many questions over the way ahead remain unresolved. RB, CGTN, London.
