This year's summer meeting of the World Economic Forum, or Summer Davos, kicks off on Tuesday in China's Tianjin. More than 2-thousand political and business leaders from around the world are set to attend the event. This year's meeting is the largest ever in its history and will focus on innovation and technology. Our reporter Xia Cheng talked to the members of a leadership program for those under 30 at the World Economic Forum. And they told us what they think is at stake for the next generation of business leaders.
XIA CHENG TIANJIN "It's the sixth time the world economic forum hosts its summer sessions in Tianjin. The guest list has always been tech savvy."
It's such a treat for smaller, younger and higher growth companies to talk artificial intelligence, new market frontiers and trade uncertainties with big name companies.
The global audience is looking for more policy clarity and signals from China. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is going to deliver a speech here on Wednesday. Global investment hasn't returned to the levels we've seen before the 2009 financial crisis. And many investors continue to bet their hopes on China for extra growth momentum.
Introducing global shapers, members of a future leadership program by the world economic forum. They are the advocates for new growth opportunities, startups, innovation and social impact.
QIAN FENG DIRECTOR OF BEI YANG CHUANG XIANG DESIGN STUDIO TIANJIN HUB MEMBER, WEF GLOBAL SHAPERS "The development of the fourth industrial revolution is exponential rather than linear, changing the world systemically. I would like to know more about the policy direction and explanation for the artificial intelligence industry in China, so that, as an entrepreneur in a traditional industry that is architectural and landscape design, I could have a better vision for the future."
XIA CHENG TIANJIN "As for Tianjin, neighbor of Beijing, it's an opportunity to boost its exposure to those international investors, getting some of the attention off Beijing."
QIAN FENG DIRECTOR OF BEI YANG CHUANG XIANG DESIGN STUDIO TIANJIN HUB MEMBER, WEF GLOBAL SHAPERS "Tianjin has strong university support for entrepreneurs, like Tianjin University where I studied and founded my company. The government has been generous when it comes to incentives for startups in Tianjin."
