Turning to Kenya, where heavy rains are set to cause more flooding. Hundreds of thousands of people are displaced and at least a hundred have been killed since the flooding began two months ago. Kenya's coastal region has been affected the worst. CGTN's Robert Nagila visited a village that has been evacuated due to the floods.
ROBERT NAGILA TANA RIVER, KENYA"The devastation is unimaginable And it's only when you are on the ground that you begin to realize the gravity of the situation. This is one of the villages in Galili.Estimated population about 200 people. But they have all been evacuated to higher ground for obvious reasons. It is difficult to quantify the loses here, as we have yet to speak to the inhabitants of this village
What is clear though is that their livelihoods have been completely destroyed.
One of the main concerns from local officials is the rising water levels. We are told just two days ago, where we are standing was completely dry land, you can now see where we are standing right now.
Add on to that the dangers that come with it, these are crocodile infested waters and we are told we cannot be here for very long
We witnessed first hand under what conditions local officials and the red cross are operating under. It's not just a humanitarian effort anymore it's also diplomacy at play, trying to quell the anger in the affected villages, trying to make the people here understand that local officials and the red cross are doing everything they can within their power, weather permitting of course.
So just how bad is it? Tana River county has a population of about 350,000 people. Of that number about 64, 000 people have been displaced and that figure is likely to go higher with the weather forecast indicating heavy rainfall in the highlands because that water all ends up here. RN, CGTN, TR."
