This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up. China has been taking concrete steps where the market is concerned. Besides the availability of quality products and services, it promotes free and fair global trade.
Good news for Chinese consumers. Tariff cuts for 1,449 items of everyday goods starting from July 1st, from an average rate of 15.7 percent to 6.9 percent. Along with raising the quality of life, it helps expand China's opening-up. This follows the decision in 2012. At the 18th CPC National Congress, the country was determined to speed up the process. Five years later at the 19th CPC National Congress, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping still emphasized the importance of this guiding principle.
XI JINPING, GENERAL SECRETARY CPC CENTRAL COMMITTEE "Only with reform and opening-up can we develop China, develop socialism, and develop Marxism."
During the annual political season in March, the central government encouraged the whole nation to be even bolder.
LI KEQIANG CHINESE PREMIER "Standing at a new historic starting point, we must go further in freeing our minds, in deepening reform, and in opening up."
One month later at the Boao Forum For Asia, President Xi Jinping once again showed China's strong will to further open its market and cooperate with the world.
XI JINPING CHINESE PRESIDENT "China will never close its door. We will further open to the world."
In November, China will hold its first International Import Expo in Shanghai. It was proposed at the Belt and Road Initiative Forum in May 2017, and made official in December. Over a thousand companies from 120 countries and regions will participate. It's another big move by China to open its market and promote a free and multilateral trade system.
