On August 30 2016, a car exploded in front of the Chinese embassy injuring three Chinese and two Kyrgyz employees of the embassy. The blast also caused extensive damage to embassy buildings and facilities with the lone assailant instantly killed.
The suicide bomber was a member of the terrorist organization, the East Turkistan Islamic Movement, which organized the blast. The Kyrgyz police arrested five suspects related to the incident and two of them were released later due to insufficient evidence.
There are still four suspects at large and the police have issued international arrest warrants for them.
