Shared Market & Future: All preparations ready ahead of inaugural CIIE

Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening of the first China International Import Expo. We're just two days away from the opening, and organizers say the country is prepared to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors. CGTN's Cui Hui'ao reports.

Opening in just two days, Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Bingnan says preparations are all ready for the very first import expo hosted by China.

WANG BINGNAN, VICE MINISTER CHINESE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE "The CIIE is the first ever national exhibition in the world with the theme on import, an important enabler for efforts to jointly build the belt and road, a global project spearheaded by the Chinese government to promote economic globalization."

Wang says Chinese president Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the CIIE. He'll also visit the Hongqiao international economic and trade forum, and deliver a keynote speech. Political leaders from over 130 countries and heads of international organizations, global business leaders, experts and scholars will attend the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Hongqiao forum, which is going to be held on the afternoon of the 5th, will draw 2000 participants, including business tycoons like Jack Ma, and other well-known international figures. Three parallel sessions on trade will offer what Wang calls the "Hongqiao wisdom" to the world.

WANG BINGNAN, VICE MINISTER CHINESE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE "Through the platform of the CIIE, we want to reflect the interests and demands of different parties in world trade, and promote the development of the global economy towards a more open, inclusive, reciprocal and balanced platform."

Asked about intellectual property protection, Wang says the first CIIE has established an on-site Intellectual Property Service Centre to safeguard the interests of merchants.
