Ma Baolin came to Russia in 2002 for an academic exchange. He fell in love with this country, and also with a Russian woman. The two got married and had a son. Now, they are practicing Chinese traditional medicine in Ufa.

Dr. Ma has lots of patients – so many, in fact that he doesn’t need to advertise. Personal recommendations by former patients keep Dr. Ma’s clinic full. Although he is a humble man, his personal fame has grown in the community.

“Doctor Ma introduced me to courses on the history of traditional Chinese medicine. I found them very interesting. On the television you can see so many visitors coming to China and some of them receive therapy and recuperate at Chinese hospitals,” Yigulia said.

Dr. Ma is a patient teacher; however, language is sometimes a barrier to communicating with his pupil. Dr. Ma’s Russian isn’t perfect and Yigulia has little knowledge of Mandarin. So, his Russian wife, who works as an assistant at the clinic, is the vital bridge between the them.
