To lead the people to a better life is the Party’s abiding goal, the people’s interests should be put above all else, and the gains of reform and development should benefit all the people in a fair way, said Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Wednesday.
Xi made the remarks at the opening session of the 19th CPC National Congress while delivering a work report titled “Secure a Decisive Victory in Building a Moderately Prosperous Society in All Respects and Strive for the Great Success of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.”
“As we work to ensure and improve people’s wellbeing, we must focus on the most pressing, most immediate issues that concern the people the most,” Xi stressed, adding that employment is pivotal to people’s wellbeing.
China will strengthen its social security system and establish a unified national platform for social security public services, Xi emphasized.
The country will win the battle against poverty, and poverty alleviation should reach those who truly need it and deliver genuine outcomes, Xi also noted.
