GREG NAVARRO SYDNEY Security and trade will be the two main goals of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's visit to the US. They two leaders will discuss regional security and how to deal with the threat posed by the DPRK. Turnbull also says he will try to address Trump's concerns about China which he does not see as a threat, and remind him of the rising economic role that China plays in the global economy.
Accompanying Turnbull is the largest senior business delegation ever to the US - they will try to increase business opportunities with Australia's largest economic partner. That will include a speech before the National Governors' Association. The delegation realizes that those governors have a say in economic matters concerning their individual states.
This trip also serves another useful purpose for Malcolm Turnbull and gives him a much-needed break from the growing controversy surrounding his Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce. Turnbull publicly scolded Joyce over his handling of an affair with a staff member. While there have been growing calls for Joyce to resign, he has resisted and took a swipe at Turnbull. Joyce is currently on a week's leave while Turnbull is overseas. The Turnbull administration has said all of this is a distraction - and there is growing speculation that Joyce will eventually be forced to resign. Greg Navarro, CGTN, Sydney.
