China-Argentina Ties: Argentine ambassador expects more Chinese investment
[]
Looking at China-Argentina ties now. Argentina's ambassador to China says his country is aiming to increase exports to China while attracting additional Chinese investment, especially in the mining sector. Let's take a look.
Trade volume between China and Argentina reached almost 17 billion US dollars in 2017. That was an 11 percent increase but Argentina didn't benefit from the bilateral trade because of fewer Chinese imports. Argentine Ambassador Diego Guelar said that his country is attempting to increase its exports to China while attracting more Chinese investment.
The ambassador said Argentina has created six copper mining programs that need about 15 billion US dollars in investment. He added that China will likely be a direct investor in Argentina's mining sector in the next few years.
The ambassador also said Argentina is cooperating with Beijing in more international affairs and sees economic opportunities through China's Belt and Road Initiative. He said he is looking forward to strengthening economic ties with China.
The ambassador said that China will always emphasize the "win-win principle". Guelar said the development balance between countries will benefit most nations in the world.
