China's Development: Qinghai Province's progress
Updated 11:41, 05-Sep-2019
Abundant resources. Breathtaking scenery. Attractions like a first-of-its-kind national park. All that and more make north-central China's Qinghai Province a beckoning destination. But things used to be vastly different. The region was isolated from the rest of the country for years. CGTN reporter Lu Sirui shows us what helped turn things around.
With China's highest elevation and smallest population density, Qinghai Province has long been trapped by its limited resources. In the 70 years of the People's Republic of China, the province has achieved historical breakthroughs. The per capita GDP of the region has reached close to 48,000 yuan, about 80 times what it was at the founding of PRC. Qinghai has also established Sanjiangyuan National Park, marking the success of the pilot program of China's national park system.
WANG JIANJUN SECRETARY OF QINGHAI PROVINCIAL COMMITTEE OF THE CPC "To provide replicable experience for the future construction of other national parks, we have established a development strategy that upholds the priority of ecological protection, promoting high-quality development and encouraging high-quality living."
A local transportation network, allowing for inbound and outbound travel, is also being developed from the ground up, with highways now exceeding eighty thousand kilometers in total.
WANG JIANJUN SECRETARY OF QINGHAI PROVINCIAL COMMITTEE OF THE CPC "A transportation network based on airports, high-speed railways and highways has been established. This allows easier access to the whole country and to the whole world."
The region has also witnessed leaps and bounds in communication. It once relied on four posts and telecommunication stations, but has now achieved 4G coverage and is getting ready for the 5G era. Lu Sirui, CGTN, BEIJING.
