China hopes the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) will improve their bilateral relationship so as to create favorable conditions for the resumption of talks, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said on Monday.
Lu's remarks came after Seoul proposed holding inter-Korean military talks and reopening Red Cross talks with Pyongyang.
China has always believed that an improvement in the bilateral relationship and progress in reconciliation and cooperation serve the fundamental interests of the two sides and contribute to regional peace and development, Lu added.
"We hope the two sides can work together to create conditions for breaking the ice and restoring negotiations," Lu said.
"We also hope all relevant parties in the international community can understand and support the efforts being made by the two sides, to play a constructive role in properly resolving the nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula."
