China urges the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to respond to the "Four Nos" promise proposed by the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a regional security forum in Manila on Monday.
Earlier this month, Tillerson said Washington does not seek regime change, the collapse of the regime, an accelerated reunification of the peninsula or an excuse to send the US military into the DPRK.
In a statement published by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang called Tillerson's statement a positive signal.
The Chinese official noted that his country and the international community are firmly opposed to the DPRK's missile and nuclear tests, which are against UN Security Council's resolutions.
The latest resolution, drafted by the US, was unanimously adopted on Saturday imposing tougher sanctions on the DPRK, which will slash by a third the country's annual export revenue.
Due to its close traditional economic relationship with the DPRK, China would pay the biggest price from the UN sanctions against Pyongyang, the statement said, stressing that Beijing will always enforce and implement the resolutions.
