A strong cold front swept across northern China on Tuesday, bringing snow in some places and interrupting pleasant spring temperatures.
According to the National Meteorological Center, temperatures in some regions may drop by 20 degrees Celsius.
In Handan city in Hebei Province, people were forced to wear thicker clothing in response to the strong gales.
For residents in Chengde in the same province northeast of Beijing, the temperature dip meant a return to wintry weather, as the region was hit by snow.
The same thing happened in neighboring Inner Mongolia.
It's been a headache for people on the road, but experts say the precipitation could ease the current drought in central and western areas of the region.
In Hetian city, in Xinjiang in northwestern China, visibility was reduced to less than a hundred meters because of a sandstorm.
The local meteorological department had to issue an orange alert – the second lowest in a four-tier warning system.
