Chinese living abroad are confident about the nation's prospects as China elected its new leadership, led by President Xi Jinping. CGTN talked with some Chinese expats for their views.
ZHANG XIAOYING CHINESE LIVING IN RUSSIA "President Xi said we need to strive for fortune and Chinese people will never give up their dream. His words are great encouragement to the new generation of Chinese expats, like us. Although we grew up overseas, China is always our root. We will follow the traditions of the older generation, and will keep fighting for our own happiness and dreams."
LIU SHUDE, ADVISOR BRAZIL COMMISSION FOR PROMOTION OF PEACEFUL REUNIFICATION OF CHINA "President Xi made ten solemn promise to us, and I was most touched by the seventh one. He said Chinese people have the will, the confidence and the power to defeat any actions that aim to separate the country. The Chinese people share one same faith, that not a single piece of land of this great nation can be separated from China. This promise gives us confidence and power to unite the whole nation."
NIE JINFENG, EXECUTIVE SECRETARY SINGAPORE-CHINA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION "President Xi proposed to deepen reform and open wider to the outside. Singapore, a small nation with many Chinese expats, has experienced the benefit brought by China's opening up. In recent years, Singapore and China have established three cooperation projects on a national level, and formed seven commissions on trade and economics. These commissions are pushing the economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries. We believe we can make great achievements as China steps up its reform and opening-up."
