US President Donald Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods may not be imposed until early June.
US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says he anticipates about 60 days worth of public comment on the tariff list, which totals more than 50 billion US dollars. The list would include largely high-technology products chosen by a computer algorithm to maximize pain on Chinese exporters while minimizing impact on US consumers. Lighthizer also said there is hope to avoid tariffs through negotiations between the US and China.
