Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday extended congratulations to Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on his re-election as Egyptian president.

“I attach great importance to China-Egypt relations and am willing to work with you to push forward the comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level so as to benefit both countries and their peoples,” Xi said.

Sisi was re-elected in a landslide for a second four-year term, garnering 97 percent of the vote. Turnout was 41 percent.
