2019 FIFA Women's World Cup: Fans react to China's loss to Italy

Turning back to the Women's World Cup, thousands of Chinese fans traveled to Montpellier to cheer on the Steel Roses against Italy, but were ultimately left disappointed. CGTN's Stefan de Vries reports on the fans reaction before and after the game.

The day began with optimism in Montpellier in southern France. The sun was out, the mood joyful, supporters from China and Italy are happily chanting together. The Chinese are hopeful.

"1-0!"

"China, China will win!"

"China, China, China!"

Two hours later, the final whistle blows. The Chinese women have lost, 2-0.

"The Italians played well. China lost. That's a pity."

"China did a good job. China didn't have a chance."

Stefan: "Even with the loss you are happy?"

"Yes, we're happy, even though they lost, they did very well."

Not surprisingly, the Italians were happy with their team's victory.

"2-0 for Italy. We came for that. They will go to the final and then become World Cup champions this year!"

"Very nice, very nice. Very good match."

Stefan: "And now you're friends?"

"Yes, we're friends!"

"It was my first match. It was fantastic. We have lost, but we have played well!"

Stefan: "Are you disappointed?"

Stefan: 'Next time will be better!'
