"Life goes on, countries must continue the structure reform agenda which is going to unleash the efficiency and productivity," said Victoria Kwakwa, vice president of World Bank Asia.
In an exclusive interview on CGTN's World Insight from Da Nang in Vietnam, where this year’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting takes place, Kwakwa said that countries should implement agendas that enable them to remain competitive.
When asked about her expectation of what contributions China and US can make to the global economy, she said, "If they can agree on a way of living together and to cooperate and to be leaders in a joint manner, that would be great."

She added that cooperation on economy and politics would be great.
"We need the two countries to get along well, it's good for all of us, it's good for the global community," she said.
Her comments come as US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon, beginning his first state visit to China.
The Trumps were received by Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan at Beijing’s Forbidden City, where the two leaders and two first ladies had tea in Baoyun Building.
Earlier in the week, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Xi and Trump are expected to “have in-depth and strategic exchange of views on major issues of common concern” but did not elaborate.

Inevitably, how to address the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) ongoing nuclear and missile programs will be an important topic, but trade and economic issues are also expected to be discussed.
At the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping touched on reform and opening up.
"Reform is going to be very important,” said Kwakwa, “Everybody is talking about the 4th Industrial Revolution. It means running economies in higher productivity. It's fundamental."
