Greek Super League: Savvidis gets 3-year stadium ban and 100,000 euro fine

Over to Greece now, where PAOK owner Ivan Savvidis will not be attending any football matches anytime soon. The team's boss has been banned from entering any soccer stadiums for three years for storming on to the pitch with a gun during a Greek league match. He has also been fined 100-thousand euros, and the team docked three points, ending their chances at a domestic league title. The country is also facing a possible international ban.
Savvidis, a Georgian-born businessman and former Russian state Duma deputy, charged on to the pitch with a gun in his belt when a goal for PAOK was disallowed in a match against fellow title contenders AEK earlier this month. The game was interrupted and the incident prompted an immediate suspension of the league by the Greek government as FIFA considers action against Greece over repeated crowd trouble and violence in stadiums. Savvidis' team must play three matches behind closed doors. PAOK say they will appeal.
