China's Anhui Province has made great efforts to protect its extraordinary ancient architecture. Known as Hui-style architecture, it's seen throughout the city on residential houses, ancestral temples and academics of classical learning.
Qimen, a county within Huangshan City, held a millennial festival where villagers gathered to pick overgrown weeds along old houses.
"Now we all live in new houses but we keep repairing the old ones. This custom provides a way of protecting the architecture. All the labor force in our village would participate in the endeavor and that has never changed," said Chen Guoquan, a resident of the county's Pancun Village.
Over the past years, Huangshan has implemented the ancient architecture property transfer reform to breath new life to the city's precious cultural heritage.
