A busy, yet constructive agenda awaits President Xi Jinping and African leaders on September third and fourth in Beijing.
On Wednesday, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced details of the 2018 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
On September third, President Xi will attend the opening ceremony and deliver a keynote speech. On the fourth, Xi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will co-chair various meetings. Parties will discuss cooperation documents, like the Beijing Declaration, and also a new three-year action plan for China-Africa relations.
The Summit is themed 'China and Africa: Toward an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future through Win-Win Cooperation'.
WANG YI CHINESE STATE COUNCILOR & FOREIGN MINISTER "The forum will host 14 sub-forums and side events, with key areas covering people-to-people exchanges, poverty reduction, and other cultural areas. The event will fully reflect the all-round and diverse cooperation between China and Africa, and galvanize the enthusiasm and confidence for people from all sectors. The measures to be discussed are very people-centric. They will encourage Chinese and African people to participate more in the cooperation, deepen mutual understanding and friendship and strengthen future relations between China and Africa."
During the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit in December 2015, President Xi Jinping has announced 10 major cooperation plans to promote industrialization and agricultural modernization in Africa, with a fund of 60 billion US dollars to implement them.
And according to the top diplomat, President Xi has also expressed his expectations for the FOCAC Beijing Summit. He said with a mutual focus on the Belt and Road Initiative, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union's Agenda 2063, the development strategies of individual African countries can be reached.
SU YUTING BEIJING "Xi Jinping's first trip abroad as President in 2013 was to Africa. And this year, his first state visit was also to Africa after he was re-elected as Chinese President. Foreign Ministry officials say the President has played a leading role in head-of-state diplomacy. And it's expected that bilateral ties and cooperation between China and Africa will be strengthened during the upcoming FOCAC Beijing Summit in early September.
