Putin lays flowers at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin has laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow, in commemoration of those who lost their lives in the Second World War. 
He was accompanied by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, government officials and religious leaders. 
June 22 is known as the Day of Remembrance And Sorrow in Russia, marking the beginning of Nazi Germany's invasion of Soviet Union back in 1941. 
Various events, including commemoration marches and concerts, are held across the nation on this day.
