China Intelligent Vehicle Championship (CIVC) was held on Thursday in Shanghai to test the levels of automation and safety systems of driverless vehicles developed by 50 teams of competitors from universities and research institutes from across China.
The competitors participated in the event competed for top prizes set up for contest in four groups: self-driving, smart facilities, digitized safety, and virtual reality.
The organizers also held a racing contest for the vehicles on tracks designed for Formula One racing, in order to test their driving speed and stability.
The organizers say their goal is to build the event into a platform offering development opportunities for self-driving vehicles.
