Cairo is hosting a three-day conference on Libya saying it wants to create a road map to peace. But major players are refusing to show up accusing Egypt of sponsoring Libya's eastern forces that have been attacking the capital, Tripoli. CGTN's Adel el Mahrouky explains.
The Egyptian parliament has opened its doors to welcome Libyan parliamentarians. Since General Khalifa Haftar launched his military offensive against Tripoli, the Libyan parliament has become more divided. Some 60 members of parliament boycotted the House of Representatives.
cMEMBER OF LIBYAN PARLIAMENT "There is a good number of members of parliament here from the West, more will arrive to Cairo later to discuss with the Egyptian authorities how to have an effective support to Libya, and also to bring points of views closer."
Cairo insists that all Libyan blocs are represented in these meetings. 80 MPs will be digging for solutions to break the ongoing fighting over Tripoli. And despite the apparent resentment between Haftar and the head of the government of national accord, Fayez Al Sarraj, many are hopeful.
ABO SALEH SHALABY MEMBER OF LIBYAN PARLIAMENT "There is always a chance for dialogue, there is always room for hope. There is an ongoing war one side sees it rightful the other see its tyranny. Today our duty is to seek all roads for peace. We must support political dialogue not war. Let not forget that the end of any war is Peace."
ADEL EL MAHROUKY CAIRO, EGYPT "It's another round of talks between Libyan politicians to find and agree on a solution to end the war. While all previous talks were doomed to fail. Hope still fills some Libyan politicians here, that this round might be different. Adel EL Mahrouky, CGTN, Cairo."
