China's Belt & Road Initiative has meant big changes for Ethiopia's transport network and brought huge opportunities for the country's businesses. CGTN's Meng Qingsheng sat down with one business executive to understand how the newly-launched Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway is sending his company steaming ahead into the future.
That's the short version of the interview, we will have more in following programs.
MENG QINGSHENG CGTN REPORTER "The Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway was launched in January this year. What influence has it had on your company's businesses?"
ROBA MEGERSSA AKAWAK, CEO ETHIOPIAN SHIPPING & LOGISTICS SERVICES ENTERPRISE "The operation of railway is seen by my company as a game changer in Ethiopia's logistic transport performance. We want to scale up the service coverage of the train, by including not only containers, but also other vehicles, import cargos, dry bulk, liquid bulk, as well as project cargos, like steel and other heavy-duty cargos, because the train, at the end of the day, will influence and compete the road transport. It's quite an achievement and the influence has been quite positive. We are using the trains in a very smooth and satisfactory way. And our customers are giving us good feedbacks that using the trains will really make them more competitive in the global markets."
