Leaders of the eight Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries will address security issues and other topics when they gather in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan this week. The organization's Secretary-General Vladimir Norov says the terror attacks faced by the group in 2018 are cause for concern. CGTN reporter Wu Guoxiu sat down with him.
WU GUOXIU BEIJING "Security is always a top priority in SCO cooperation. But media reports say that terror group ISIL even declared its presence in one SCO member country. What efforts are being taken by the SCO to face new security challenges in the region?"
VLADIMIR NOROV, SECRETARY-GENERAL SHANGHAI COOPERATION ORGANIZATION "Terrorist nests in the Middle East have been destroyed, so many terrorists returned to their own countries or third countries, including Afghanistan. They spread terrorism information via the internet, and that's a very serious problem. Recently the SCO's dialogue partner Sri Lanka suffered terror attacks, so certainly leaders of SCO countries are very concerned about these problems. Fighting with three evil forces, namely terrorism, separatism and extremism has been revealed by our documents. 47 percent of them were related to security. So during the upcoming summit, security will be a prioritized focus of leaders. They will make sure about future working directions in this area."
