South African Stephen Mokoka was the men's winner and Ethiopian Roza Dereje Bekele the women's in the Shanghai International Marathon on Sunday. About 28,000 runners took part in the race, with another 10,000 in the 10-kilometer and health runs. There were 26 medical-aid stations and 22 ambulances along the route, and the runners could ask for help from nearly 1,000 medical workers.
