Chinese animation wins first prize in Budapest film festival

"Big Fish and Begonia", an epic animated fantasy film by Chinese directors Liang Xuan and Zhang Chun, won first prize in the full-length film category of the 15th Anilogue International Animation Festival in Budapest, Hungary on Sunday.

The animation tells the story of a world within the world, unseen by any human.
Animation talent consultant Shelley Page, a member of the festival jury, said that the Chinese film’s unique, magical universe and memorable, complex characters impressed the jury.

Liang Xuan and Zhang Chun used both two- and three-dimensional techniques to create a fun and rich movie, according to the jury.
First prize in the short-film category went to "The Burden" by Swedish director Niki Lindroth van Bahr.
