Amid the immigration crisis, President Trump once again slammed the country's, in his word, "weak" immigration laws. He told the families of people who reportedly died at the hands of undocumented immigrants that the government's first duty, and highest loyalty, is to the citizens of America.
DONALD TRUMP US PRESIDENT "Will not rest until our border is secure our citizens are safe and we finally end the immigration crisis once and for all. We want safety in our country. We want strong borders. We want people to come in but we want them to come in the proper way."
Trump has also urged the GOP lawmakers to hold off on passing immigration legislation until after November mid-term elections. He tweeted if more Republicans are voted into Congress, the US will pass the "finest, fairest and most comprehensive" policy. However, it seems that the president's Republican fellows think otherwise.
REP. MARK SANFORD SOUTH CAROLINA "It's a horrifically chilling signal that's being sent to members of the Republican caucus on what might come next in immigration because this issue is so big and so contentious that without presidential support I think it becomes near impossible. And what the president just signaled was, 'I'm not going to be there'"
REP. MIKE COFFMAN COLORADO "I hope my colleagues disregard that and that we do move forward. This is a critical issue for the country. It shouldn't have to wait till after the next election."
