South Korea says it won't consider further THAAD deployments

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha said Monday that Seoul is not considering any additional deployment of the controversial THAAD missile defense system, Yonhap reports.
Kang also said the country will not participate in the US-led missile defense (MD) networks.
Her comments come just days before US President Donald Trump's first trip to Asia which includes visits to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines.
"We are not considering any additional THAAD deployment," Kang told a parliamentary audit of the foreign ministry in Seoul.

The US military has already installed a THAAD battery that includes six missile launchers in the southeastern county of Seongju.
While Seoul has reiterated that THAAD is aimed at defending South Korea and countering threats from Pyongyang, Beijing has protested against its deployment.
