Former martial arts star Battulga Khaltmaa was sworn in as president of Mongolia on Monday.
Khaltmaa won the country's run-off vote on Friday.
He vowed to address the country's economic problems and tackle rising unemployment, pledging to forge closer ties with neighboring partners such as China and Russia.
The Chinese government sent congratulations to Khaltmaa on his win.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said progress has been made in recent years in ties between China and Mongolia, bringing benefits to the people of both countries.
China will continue to seek closer ties with Mongolia, he added.
