​China-Kuwait Ties: President Xi and Emir Al-Sabah agree to establish strategic partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Both have agreed to establish a strategic partnership between the two countries, to inject new impetus into bilateral ties, and open up new prospects in the new era. Wang Yuan has more.
A new era for two important partners.
China and Kuwait agreed to establish a strategic partnership between the two countries. The decision was made after the leaders of both countries met in Beijing, a day before the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.
President Xi said Kuwait is an important partner for China in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, and maintaining stability in the Gulf region, and China will continue to support Kuwait to stick to its own path of development.
Al-Sabah said Kuwait regards China as a reliable friend and partner, and will uphold the One China policy.
China is Kuwait's largest source of imports, while Kuwait is China's fourth largest crude oil supplier in the Arab world.
The two sides will expand cooperation in energy, infrastructure, finance, trade and investment, improve people-to-people exchanges, and deepen cooperation in security and counter-terrorism.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral agreements after the meeting. A joint statement on the establishment of a strategic partnership was also issued.
