The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that they have ordered the US to reduce their diplomatic staff in the country to 455 people by September 1 to match the number of Russian diplomatic staff in the US.
The move came amid rising tensions between the two countries and less than 24 hours after the US Senate backed tough sanctions on Russia on Thursday evening for alleged meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said the US punitive measures are against international law and confirm "extreme aggression of the US in international affairs".
Russia will also seize a US dacha and a warehouse in Moscow used by US diplomats.
