A name card for China.
President Xi said "Hainan will become an example of the nation's image."
He made the comment while addressing celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the founding of Hainan Province, and the Hainan Special Economic Zone.
XI JINPING CHINESE PRESIDENT "The Party Central Committee supports Hainan in exploring policies and mechanisms for free trade ports. This is a major step, showing our enhancement of our opening up policy, and pushing forward economic globalization."
Home to nine million people, Hainan is China's only province entirely in the tropics.
Its unique location and tropical environment serve as a good test bed for reform and liberalization policies.
This latest move echoes Xi Jinping's resolution to continue opening up its economy at the just-concluded Boao Forum in Hainan.
XI JINPING CHINESE PRESIDENT "China's open door will not be closed, it will be only opened wider."
Hainan will be China's largest free trade zone, enjoying higher-level opening-up policies. It will also be the country's first free trade port since the founding of New China. It will be a new model and example for deepening reform and opening-up.
The authorities said investors are welcome to visit Hainan and share in the opportunities.
All of this will open a new chapter in Hainan's prosperity. CGTN
