New tech for the old! Three-dimension technology is now being used in the preservation of cultural relics. And that's exactly what the Sha'anxi Provincial History Museum is doing.
This is the relics restoration exhibition at the Shaanxi History Museum. Through 3D scanning, the Buddha statue's data is collected and computed. Then the data is put in the 3D printer to make a copy.
HAN BO ENGINEER "The 3D copy is 99 percent like the original, showing the details. From this, we can quickly get the volume and the surface area of the object. These data can be kept in the archive to be used in the future restoration work."
Han said the technology can also restore some information that has been lost through ages.
HAN BO ENGINEER "For example, the surface of a thousand-year-old stone tablet has become unclear due to weathering. Some engravings can't be read by the human eye. The 3D technology can collect every detail from the printed models, offering more exact information for restoration."
The 3D technology exhibition is open to visitors. It runs two months until the end of August. SW CGTN.
