Microsoft's profits soar amid strong cloud demand

Microsoft has reported better-than-expected quarterly profits due to strong performance in its fast-growing cloud business, CGTN reports.
Shares of the world's largest software company rose as much as 1.5 percent in after-hours trading on Thursday.
Microsoft's cloud unit, most notably, Azure, its cloud service platform, nearly doubled its quarterly revenue.
Earnings indicate that the tech giant has sharpened its focus on the fast-growing cloud computing unit to offset weakness in the PC market.
It is also an indicator of Microsoft's ambition to compete for a bigger market share of the ever-expanding cloud service with rivals, such as Google and Amazon.
