In Spain, the Catalan parliament has postponed its session for the election of the region's president. It was supposed to take place next Monday.
The announcement was made Friday after candidate Jordi Sanchez was barred by the Spanish Supreme Court from leaving jail. He's awaiting trial on rebellion and sedition charges due to his involvement in Catalonia's independence referendum in October. Pro-independence parties won in regional-level elections last December. Court rulings have prevented them from electing a new president for the region. The central government in Madrid says none of the candidates should be in jail or under judicial investigation.
