The Belt and Road initiative is attempting to revive ancient trading routes and build new ones. Many African countries are set to benefit from that. In North Africa, Tunisia has hosted a special Silk Road concert -- in an ancient Roman theatre. And that saw the coming together of many talents from Tunisia, Egypt, Spain, China and Russia. CGTN's Adnen Chaoachi has that story.
The archaeological site of "The Baths of Antoninus in Carthage" hosted the "Concert of the Silk Road" after the success of its first session celebrated in 2017 at the United Nations in Geneva.
PABLO MIELGO CONDUCTOR, SPAIN "The 1st concert, we did it in Geneva in the Headquarters of the UN. Then we did it in Egypt, now we do it here in this special, wonderful, very antique place and then we will do it in Greece, in China, in all the places where the silk road took place at that time."
China's Belt and Road initiative aims to strengthen and consolidate the relations of partnership and international cooperation at all levels, with cultural exchange also included.
EDYY CHEN, SECRETARY GENERAL, WORLD PUBLIC DIPLOMACY "The Silk Road concert here in Tunis at this magnificent location. I think this is a wonderful sharing of the spirit of the Silk Road."
DR. MOHAMED SAHBI BASLI, CHAIRPERSON, WORLD PUBLIC DIPLOMACY "I do believe that the One Belt One Road initiative, the Silk Road initiative has a very strong component which is related with culture, with tourism, with communication, for a better understanding. It is the only way to succeed in creating a harmonious world and create world for everybody."
Emira Dakhlia, the Tunisian Russian Mezzo-Soprano sang for peace, love, tolerance and friendship.
EMIRA DAKHLIA MEZZO-SOPRANO, RUSSIA "I think that art is very important. It gathers all people around together and gives us the possibility to work with each other, to find new things in other cultures."
Over 2000 spectators enjoyed the extraordinary performance at the symphonic concert.
"The show is impressive! It's an exceptional night! I love the Silk Road concert!"
ADNEN CHAOACHI TUNIS, TUNISIA "The Silk Road Mega Symphonic Concert has brought together several lyrical singers from Tunisia, Egypt, Spain, China, Russia and Europe, selected for their ability to represent the music of the Silk Road in all its symbolic dimensions. The International Cultural event represents a universal concert that celebrates dialogue and mutual understanding between nations."
