Rambling roses, mint leaves and flower beds of tree peonies are just a few of the plants being showcased by the Russia Pavilion at the Beijing Expo. CGTN's Omar Khan walks us through the exhibition, while also taking a look at the green tech coming out of China's northern neighbor.
OMAR KHAN RUSSIA PAVILION, BEIJING EXPO "When thinking of Russia, people often imagine an expansive land frozen in tundra and battered by harsh Siberian winters. But here at the Russian Pavilion in Yanqing, things are actually a lot greener, let's check it out!"
18-hundred square meters in size, the pavilion setup by the world's largest country exhibits over 100 plants, flowers and herbs. Designers set up three core buildings shaped like haystacks, symbolizing a green lifestyle. The three heaps of greenery are themed, Habitat, Ecological Protection and Appreciation of Beauty.
OMAR KHAN RUSSIA PAVILION, BEIJING EXPO "Each haystack has a touch of culture as well. Here there are replica paintings of the late artist Natalia Goncharova, pasted to each of the displays, giving this pavilion, a real Russian feel."
The entire pavilion mirrors what's happening back in Russia. Organizers say cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar, are all transforming into environment-friendly locations, aiming to become major green space hubs.
The theme of the pavilion is "Russian Garden – From Roots to Fruits". It's meant to demonstrate respect for traditions and a commitment to future ecological achievements.
Aside from art, laser treatment technology of plant roots and flower buds is also being showcased. Academic institutions and research organizations from across Russia have all contributed to the pavilion's blossoming.
The advanced laser treatment helps keep Russia green, allowing plants and flowers to become more resistant to frost and sub-zero temperatures. And like many other international pavilions, visitors to the Horticultural Expo will have the opportunity to experience a variety of different cultures.
