At least one person was killed after a man stabbed several people in downtown Turku, southwest Finland on Friday, according to local media reports.
The man stabbed people in several places including one around the market square after 4 p.m. local time.
He was arrested after being shot in the leg by police, local police wrote on Twitter.
Police warned people to stay away from the city center.
Eyewitnesses told local media that several men waved big knives while shouting. Some attackers were said to be at large.
Police in Finland's capital city said they have reinforced security at Helsinki airport and train stations following the incident in Turku.
Finnish police are searching for more perpetrators in Turku.
The Government will closely monitor the situation and the ongoing police operation in Turku, Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila wrote on Twitter.
