The theme of the UK Pavilion at the expo will be "Innovation is GREAT." It'll feature cutting-edge Virtual-Reality technologies. CGTN's Zhang He has the story.
This isn't a game. It's a VR platform to help footballers improve their performance. Data will be collected while you kick the ball.
ZHANG HE MANCHESTER "With this VR headset on, it is just like training on a real football pitch. All my movements will be tracked by the trackers on my feet."
The system also helps injured players stay sharp while recovering and clubs can input match data so users can immerse themselves in real games.
ADAM DICKINSON DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR, MI HIEPA SPORTS "Our first focus was with pro clubs, it has been about 10-15 clubs regularly using that. And our switch now is been to looking at the impact in the academies. If we to do it in real life, you need 25 people to do that one drill while you can do that without the impacts and repetition a thousand times so the benefit very accelerated."
The Manchester-based company will showcase their technology at the China International Import Expo. It hopes to use the opportunity to tap into China's vast and rapidly growing football market.
ANDY ETCHES SPORTS DIRECTOR, MI HIEPA SPORTS "We received an invitation from the UK government to participate in the event. They saw us as a leading-edge innovative company and thought that we could really show what Britain is doing and what is GREAT about British technology. We think it is a great opportunity for us to reach out to the Chinese market and engage with the grass root football movement is beginning there so obviously we can help developing players for the future of China."
Innovation is the theme of the UK's pavilion at CIIE. The section will feature some of the country's most pioneering technology, and showcase its expertise across a range of sectors.
MATTHEW ROUS, CHIEF EXECUTIVE CHINA-BRITAIN BUSINESS COUNCIL "Some big names of British business will be there. Jaguar Land Rover, HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, British Airways, all taking exhibition space. And there will a large UK national pavilion organized by the department for International Trade of the UK to provide opportunities to showcase British enterprise more generally."
The UK pavilion at CIIE will also include a series of talks and seminars under the innovation theme, providing a platform for Chinese businesses to connect with UK companies. Zhang He, CGTN, Manchester.
