Both the United Nations and European Union have hailed encouraging steps on the Korean Peninsula after Seoul and Pyongyang agreed to hold a summit and the DPRK raised the possibility of giving up its nuclear weapons. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged all sides to seize the opportunities of a planned summit between the two sides, as well as future talks on ending Pyongyang's nuclear weapons drive. Guterres says he is encouraged by the advances made during the latest inter-Korean talks, particularly the agreement to hold a summit meeting soon and to discuss denuclearization in future talks with all relevant parties.
Meanwhile, EU diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini said the bloc was ready to do what it could to support the moves.
