China has made great achievements in its reform during the past few years, but more efforts must be made as the country embarks on a new journey, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in Beijing on Monday.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while presiding over the first meeting of the Leading Group for Deepening Overall Reform of the 19th CPC Central Committee, which he heads.
Xi called for fully implementing the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress held in October and unswervingly pressing ahead with reform.

According to a statement released after the meeting, reform plans for the next year, which marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up, must be made as early as possible with higher standards.
A number of documents in reform areas such as state-owned assets management, targeted poverty alleviation, environmental protection, education and rural land use were reviewed and approved at the meeting.

Over 1,500 reform measures launched since 2012

The Central Leading Group for Deepening Overall Reform was set up at the end of 2013 to lead the work to comprehensively deepen reforms. The group had held 38 meetings and reviewed 277 documents before the 19th CPC National Congress.
According to Xi's report to the 19th CPC National Congress, China has launched over 1,500 reform measures since the 18th CPC National Congress in November 2012; breakthroughs have been made in key areas, and general frameworks for reform have been established in major fields.

Efforts must be made to further supply-side structural reform, make China a country of innovators, pursue a rural vitalization strategy, implement the coordinated regional development strategy, improve the socialist market economy and pursue opening-up on all fronts, Xi stressed.
The report makes clear that the overall goal of deepening reform in every field is to improve and develop the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and modernize China's system and capacity for governance.
