Dr. John Gong, a professor at the University of International Business and Economics, spoke with CGTN Digital about what China's 3-billion-US-dollar payback means to the US.
Gong said the increase is aimed at tariffs on US imports that which consist mostly of agricultural products and is actually a response to the "Section 232 investigation" based on the security argument. For the "301 survey,” we still have to wait and see the White House's published list of Chinese's target products.
In Gong's opinion, China's countermeasures have sent a very strong signal to the US side that China is sure to respond to any challenge posed by the US' punitive tariffs.
