Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has met the next president of the UN General Assembly in Beijing. Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces will begin her 12-month tenure in New York next month. She said the international community must strengthen their cooperation on multilateralism, and maintain both international rules and order. She expressed her appreciation for China's effort in that regard, and said she would continue to support the country's massive international development project, the Belt & Road Initiative. Wang said China would support the UN's capacity to face its global challenges, and urged the world to respect the organization's authority, and to work against trade protectionism.
