Spring Festival Travel Rush: Ferry service resumes in South China's Hainan
[]
Ferry service has resumed today in the South China island province of Hainan, to Guangdong. So far, over 10-thousand passengers and more than 2,500 vehicles have made the crossing today. But local authorities say thousands of cars are still stranded at three ports in the provincial capital Haikou.
It comes after a further bout of fog brought ferry service on the Qiongzhou Strait to a halt. The ferries are the only way for cars to leave the island. Passengers are heading home after the Spring Festival holiday. Hainan is a popular tourist destination in winter.
