Autonomous driving will likely be here before we know it. But in order to enjoy a safe driving experience, there are still a lot of challenges, namely those in infrastructure. CGTN's Wu Lei was at Alibaba's 2018 computing conference in Hangzhou and found out how they are working with other high tech companies to boost the development of smart mobility.
Technology upgrades continue to reshape the auto industry and daily mobility. So what do people think about the future of cars and ways to move around?
HUANG XIAOYU VISITOR "In the future, people will be able to sit in the car and sleep, and then the car will send you to the place you want. It will be very easy and convenient."
ZHANG LUOJIN VISITOR "Future cars are unmanned vehicles, with more understanding of people's needs in a safer, more personalized way."
China has become the world's largest car market. Today a lot of auto manufacturers are strengthening their research and development to make their cars smarter.
WU LEI HANGZHOU "Today we have a more enjoyable driving experience. We can talk to the car, and tell it to play music or adjust the inside temperature for us. But today's smart cars are far from the kind that will be able to drive autonomously. The road outside also needs improvement."
In order to upgrade the current road infrastructure, Alibaba has announced a vehicle road collaboration solution at the 2018 computing conference.
WANG MAO, GENERAL MANAGER ALIOS, ALIBABA GROUP "We will work with other departments and companies to provide smarter roads and expressway solutions with our AI and Internet of Things technology, so that the smart cars can run in a fully smart environment."
Autonomous driving will become a key part of smart mobility in the future. To reach that final goal will require collaboration from officials, entrepreneurs and scientists.
WANG DONGZHU, DEPUTY CHIEF ENGINEER RESEARCH INST. OF HIGHWAY MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT "Now many internet companies are undertaking autonomous driving tests. And we hope this vehicle road collaboration will further boost the development of autonomous driving by solving some practical difficulties."
Alibaba has also established a "2038 Super League" in conjunction with national transportation departments and other high tech companies like Intel, China Unicom and State Grid. They hope to speed up the building of China's autonomous driving over the next 20 years. WL, CGTN, HZ.
