Former Hollywood film mogul Harvey Weinstein has been released on bail after being charged with rape and sexual abuse. CGTN's John Terrett has more from New York.

JOHN TERRETT NEW YORK It is one of the highest profile and most public falls from grace the world has seen for a very long time.

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein - one of the most successful and prolific Hollywood producers - turned himself into the police Friday in connection with sex crimes.

Weinstein's name has become a by-word for the global Metoo movement, which fights to highlight the way some women have been treated by men in power - often their employers - and to change it.

By some estimates, more than 100 women have come forward publicly to accuse 66-year-old Weinstein of sex crimes. The charges of rape and sex abuse involve two women.

As he surrendered to police - he was surrounded by news photographers - but said nothing to waiting reporters.

Weinstein left the police station in handcuffs after a short court appearance, he posted one million dollars in bail and surrendered his passport, pending trial.
